SALSA SOCIETY MOVES TO LACE EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT FROM 8.30PM
Picture the scene: You’re in a club dancing with your mates when suddenly one of the guys takes a girl by the hand and starts spinning her round and putting her into cool moves in perfect time to the music! That’s what you will learn at Salsa Society.
Check out the video below. You will see Lesley who joined Salsa Society 2 years ago with no dance experience She now has a lot of fun on the dance floor!
Salsa dancing can be performed not only to Latin music but to R&B too. Learn how to stand out from the crowd. Come along to Salsa Society, its fun, its social and it shows you how to look cool on the dance floor.
What is Salsa? Salsa is a Latin American Street Dance performed in pairs. It is one of our newest and busiest Societies , this year it will be even bigger.
Where is is held? This year we integrated Salsa Society with SALSA SQUAD's Award Winning Latin Club Night which takes place at Lace Nightclub every Friday. This night attracts dancers of all different levels, ages and backgrounds, from Abosolute Beginners to Advanced dancers. You can check out details of the night at http://www.salsasquad.com
Do I need a partner? No you dont. During the class you get to swap partners every couple of minutes making it a great way of meeting new people.
Is dancing for girls? Ask that of Paul Healey who will be teaching you. He has 25 fights under his belt. He took up dancing to improve his footwork in the ring. He believes that anyone who palys football, rugby, basketball etc will benefit from dancing. Anyway, we all know ladies like fellas who can dance and in the process they all get to meet and dance with 20 + girls during the evening, what’s not to like?
Do I need to be able to dance? No, that's what the lessons are for, just turn up and join in the fun.
Do I need to come every week? No, just come when you can, its all very relaxed.
For times and costs please see below.
Membership to the society costs just £10 and is open to all students of the University.
Membership means that you only pay £3 for each session which, including dancing, lasts over 3 hours. Non-members can attend but pay £5 per lesson. We strongly recommend becoming a member as after only 5 lessons you have saved your £10 and Salsa Society is on 52 weeks a year!
The Classes are taught by Paul Healey from Salsa Squad who this year won Top UK Regional Salsa Instructor. Paul keeps things simple and focuses on having fun.
