This page shows all of the latest campaigns and events that the Students' Union is involved with.

Clothes For Cause Campaign

We have once again teamed up with Bristol Textile Recyclers to run a clothing collection scheme across the University to take place in the new year. Simply pick up a clothing bag from your nearest Students’ Union Office, fill it with all of your unwanted clothes, curtains, paired shoes, handbags and belts, and return it back to the Students’ Union office.

Please keep checking this page for details of what date the bags will be available from!!!

For more information, please contact our Environment & Sustainability Executives Naomi Guest or Victoria Withecombe by emailing naomiguest@connect.glos.ac.uk or victoriawithecombe@connect.glo.ac.uk
All money raised will go towards funding future sustainability projects for the Students’ Union.

Snap It Off

The NUS' Snap It Off campaign allows students from all over the country to upload photos of universities that are wasting energy by leaving lights switched on unnecessarily. Here is your chance to take some real action. All you have to do is upload a picture of a light left on around the university campus when it dosen't need to be on. To upload pictures you can visit the NUS' Snap It Off website or text NUS to 07725202020. For more information see snap it off

Oxfam

Oxfam is a registered charity that campaigns for change, and is involved with emergency response and development work. The student union is currently supporting their ‘Grow’ campaign which is addressing issues such as Land Grabs, Climate Change, Food Price Hikes and Intensive Farming. We shall be organising some events with Oxfam in the coming weeks, so keep checking the sustainability pages on how to get involved!!

If you would like to find out more on Oxfam’s Grow campaign please click on the following link: oxfam

Additionally please sign the petition addressing the company responsible for evicting 22,500 farmers from their land. This is a really important action and we need you all to sign it and share it around on your networks as much as possible as it is all about the numbers of people that sign. get invovled

Fairtrade

The Students' Union supports the Fairtrade Foundation on a long term basis, especially with a calendar of events throughout Fairtrade Fortnight. Last year's Fairtrade Fortnight saw a number of events including special edition's of the famous Sunday Night Banter, a Fairtrade Debate deciding whether students' should buy Fairtrade food or shop locally, a Fairtrade wine tasting event and a Fairtrade Market Stall Event in partnership with the University catering company Baxter Storey.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2012, which takes place between the 27th February and the 11th March 2012. During these two weeks, we will be running another fantastic series of events, including another Fairtrade debate, another series of Fairtrade quizzes and much more. All of these events contribute towards the University and the Students' Union being awarded a Fairtrade University Status.

The Blackout

The Blackout is a joint University Sustainability Team and the Students’ Union event ran by Events Management Students, in which we run a series of events throughout one week in March 2012 including switching all the lights off at Oxstalls for an hour. This is an imaginative and fun event that raises awareness amongst students about energy use and climate change. Keep checking this space for further details.

Sustainability St*rs

We are currently supporting a University ran initiative, Sustainability Sta*rs!!
Sustainability St*rs are student volunteers who help to make a difference by volunteering on a range of projects run by the University’s Sustainability Team. You can help with the Big Green Broom project re-using goods from student halls or you can volunteer as a Sustainability Events Assistant and gain valuable experience organising events alongside the SU.

See the ‘Get Involved’ page if you are interested in this opportunity.
