► Sustainability

Here at the University of Gloucestershire Students’ Union, we are committed to becoming a leader of sustainability across the Higher Education sector. We are aware that all of our products, services and activities have an impact on our environment, and that reducing and managing these impacts should be an integral part of the policies and procedures that we follow.

In recent years, we have come a long way to achieving our aims, having elected an Environment & Sustainability Executive for the past four years, won two Silver Sound Impact Awards, a Gold Green Impact Award and been a Green Gown Award finalist in the category of student initiatives and campaigns. As well as all of this, we were one of the first Students’ Unions across the country to form our own student allotment society, which is now being used as a case study as part of the Fresher Freshers’ project. We have held successful Blackout events run by our very own level two events management students for the last three years, and our Fairtrade Fortnight events have become one of the highlights of the year. Our recycling portfolio has expanded from just paper and cans to mobile phones, stamps, envelopes, batteries, ink cartridges and for 2010 even clothing.

We are proud of the work we do here, but are very aware that we must continue to progress and sustain the rapid improvements that we have seen in recent years. As such, our Environment & Sustainability Executives, Naomi Guest and Victoria Withecombe along with our Environment & Sustainability Committee and all of those who volunteer for us are consistently working hard to continue improving whilst organising a series of interesting, engaging and at times thought-provoking events aimed to really capture the hearts and mind of all students, staff and visitors.

These web pages are at the heart of raising awareness of the sustainability agenda, and are therefore full of information, news, competitions, events and ideas, however, if you do have any ideas, comments, questions or simply want to get involved, please email our

Environment & Sustainability Executives, Naomi Guest at naomiguest@connect.glos.ac.uk. or Victoria Withecombe at victoriawithecombe@connect.glos.ac.uk

Feel free to have a look around, take a look at our up and coming events, find out how to get involved, and what the SU’s policies are in regards to sustainability.
Additionally keep checking this page for any news!!!
