► Varsity

Hello everyone and welcome to Varsity 2012!!!! Once again two weeks of top sporting action will dominate our University from the 18th April – 30th April as the University of Gloucestershire seek to hold onto our title of Varsity champions for the fifth successive year!

Every year varsity gets bigger and more professionalised and this year is no exception. For 2012 we have a record number of teams competing as this years Varsity will be played out over 17 fixtures. As well as the return of Men’s Football and Rugby Union, we have included Trampolining and Golf into the line up this year and unfortunately timing restricted even more sports being included.

We have again been able to secure some of the best quality sporting facilities across the counties of both Gloucestershire and Worcestershire with the finale of varsity being the rugby union games being held once again at Kingsholm, home of Gloucester RFC.

We are again confident of winning Varsity which will this year be a race to 9 points to secure the overall title. With some of our clubs consistently competing in the top end of the BUCS leagues and reaching the latter stage of the knockout rounds we hope that we can keep the trophy at Oxstalls for yet another year. We still have 8 teams left in knockout at time of writing and 4 teams going up to Sheffield for the BUCS championships.

Varsity provides us with a thrilling end to our sporting year and gives us a chance to extend our sporting season into semester 3. The atmosphere created at all events is something special and something which most players participating will never experience again throughout their sporting lives. A successful varsity requires a competitive spirit on the pitch but a friendly atmosphere off it too! Remember when you’re at any venue part of the series, or travelling to and from venues that you are representing your University, your students union and your club. We hope to see as many of you as possible throughout the two weeks and at our finale at Kingsholm on the 30th April.

Come on Gloucestershire, Blue & Blue, Through and Through
