Here at the University of Gloucestershire we currently have 36 competitive sports clubs that anyone is welcome to join. Within those 36 clubs, many have multiple teams: for example we have 5 men's football teams and 4 women's hockey teams, so there are plenty of opportunities for you to join in.

The majority of our teams compete in the official University Leagues and Competitions: BUCS (British University and College Sport). Our BUCS teams will gain points through competing in these leagues and competitions throughout the year. At the end of each year the points accumulated by each university are calculated and a table is released, so the aim for us each year is to climb as high up the table as possible! Last year we came a record 34th out of around 150 Universities. For more information on BUCS please visit www.bucs.org.uk.

Each club is run by a committee of students, who volunteer to hold a committee position for a year. This is a great opportunity for students and the amount of work and effort put in by each committee member from each club deserves to be commended.

At the end of the year the Students' Union holds The Sports Awards. This is the most prestigious sports event of the year and should NOT be missed! After all the hard work put in by each club through the year, they get the chance to let their hair down and party into the night. During the ceremony, awards are given to individuals and teams who deserve credit for their achievements throughout the year, including Colours Awards given to those individuals who have been dedicated to their club throughout their university life.

We also end each sporting year with our annual Varsity against the University of Worcester, which we have won for the last 3 years in a row! This year we won 8-5, with the highlights being the Men's and Women's Football being played at Whaddon Road (CTFC), and the Men's and Women's Rugby bringing a close to the series at Kingsholm (GRFC)
